BarMitzvah

What is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a coming of age. In the Jewish tradition this age is 13. When you are thirteen and becoming a Bnai Mitzvah, you read from the Torah. You also read a haftorah, which is like a torah story. After the service, there will probably a reception, and you might have a party with games and a DJ; you would be able to see your family and friends. The next day, there might be a party for the bar/bat mitzvah because there still might be a reception after the ceremony; but, that person's parents might want to have a party after or the next day. Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah means becoming the daughter or the son of the torah. To be a bar mitzvah, you have to be a boy. To be a bat mitzvah, you have to be a girl. To become a bar/bat itzvah, you should've been in hebrew school, so that you could've learned how to read hebrew. You should know how to read hebrew to be bar/bat mitzvah, but you could just memorize the prayers. To become a bar/bat mitzvah, it is a BIG responsibility to learn and practice every night. After this ceremony, you should be proud of yourself because you have just done something really amazing. Of course, after your bar/bat mitzvah, you should do confirmation:)
