Shofar

What is a shofar?

A shofar(pronounced SHOW-far)is a hollowed ram's horn. It is thought to be the oldest wind instrument known to man. Usually a beige (pronnounced baesh) and averages in size about 1.5 feet long. But a shofar is not really an instrument, as in diffrent notes, but it is controlled by length and clarity.

When do we blow the shofar?

• Rosh Hashana
• Yom Kippur
• The Jewish month of Elul,
• And some Chassidic Groups on Hoshanah Rabbah.
